Adult Education
y̓é te skícetip / It is good you come to visit us.
SVNS hosts a variety of onsite educational opportunities for adults.
We here at SVNS know that between work and family, it can be hard to find the time for school as an adult.
But we also know that our community and our Nation are depending on the next generation of leaders to help us negotiate effectively, assert our rights, and compete in today's global marketplace. Accordingly, we are firm believers in the words of Chief Leonard George when he states that “to survive, we must maintain our cultures and become modern-day hunters through education”, by earning the “degrees, diplomas, and technical trades [...] that will allow us to grow into the future”. |

To this end, the learning community of SVNS is proud to offer a range of courses and programs at the post-secondary level, serving both Lytton as well as those communities neighbouring ours along the Fraser Canyon corridor of the Nlaka’pamux territory. Registration is open to all who wish to participate, and we are honoured to welcome students from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds while providing a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that fosters a sense of belonging, mastery, generosity, and independence.
For those members of our community who are seeking to earn their graduation diploma as adults, or who may be seeking to upgrade credits on their transcript for entrance to specific university programs, our University and College Entrance Preparation (UCEP) program presents a unique and amazing opportunity that is also one of the cornerstones of our operations here at SVNS. In addition to the full credits required to graduate under the BC Adult Diploma framework, participants who successfully complete this program are are also exceptionally well-prepared for competitive entry to a wide variety of undergraduate programs, and are eligible to earn up to 12 provincially-articulated university credits (one full semester of study) as part of their experience at SVNS. This program is available entirely free of charge to all members of our community, qualifies registered participants to receive financial support through their respective band administrations while they study, and is highly recommended as a transitional step for all students who are graduating high school, as well as for all learners over the age of 18 who are preparing to further their own educational journeys.

Aside from University and College Entrance Preparation, SVNS are also committed to working closely with the Lytton First Nation in building capacity at a local level, by identifying and addressing areas of educational need for our community’s various service organizations, and administrative infrastructure.
To date, we have now offered numerous post-secondary programs in partnership with many of the leading universities of our province in the fields of Trades Training, Health Care, Early Childhood Education, and the Human Services to meet these needs in our community, with fully 92% of our graduates now having earned degrees, diplomas, or other university credits as a result of our work together here at SVNS. |
As BC’s current labour market statistics indicate above, however, we also find ourselves entering an era in which 97% of the jobs that are available to our youth will require some form of occupational training; 76% of which will require the successful completion of one or more years of post-secondary study in order to qualify for even entry-level positions. The standards that both our youth, and ourselves are being held to in today’s world continue to become more demanding with each year, and for the sake of ourselves, our families, and our communities, none of us can afford to be left behind.
