How is Stein Valley Nlakapamux School Governed?

SVNS is a community based, Independent School owned and operated by the Lytton First Nation.

All members of the Chief and Council are members of the society who appoint the Board of Directors for a specified term.  The Board of Directors govern the school independently from Lytton First Nation.

Our five current board members are:

President: Genessa Sam
Vice President: Gloria Raphael
Board Member: Chief Niakia Hanna
Board Member/Treasurer: Michelle Machelle
Board Member/Secretary: Amanda Joe

Since the school is an independent school, we follow the Ministry of Education’s guidelines and general direction.  However, we do have the autonomy to make educational and cultural decisions that we feel are relevant to our students and their families.  Based on our Vision, Mission and Philosophy, we welcome our neighbours to our school, both First Nations and non-First Nations.
